Social Studies...

This week and last with our change in schedule because of our testing, we have been covering some of our social studies since we had not had a chance to yet.  We are looking into MI history.  Tonight, the fourth graders are coming home with an informational reading on the Soo Locks.  They were all very intrigued by these and could not seem to fathom the complexity of it.  Since they were eager to learn more, I told them to ask a family member tonight if they had ever been there. Theya re going to ask to tell them a bit more about it.  We did watch a video clip that showed one boat going through the locks, but, it is not a common thing that the students would know about or see on a regular basis. If you have been, please share your thoughts and experiences with your child and maybe next summer that would make a great family trip.  I  haven't been there since I was a child and I already told my family - we are going!!
